Quantopian is a crowd-sourced hedge fund that offers individuals a free platform to build, test, and execute trading algorithms on. Their mission? Attract the world's best algorithmic and financial talent.
David Edwards, Quantopian intern and live trader, will run through a practical overview of the breadth and characteristics of quant strategies built, backtested and shared in the open-source community on Quantopian. He will cover the basics of mean reversion, price momentum, value, sentiment and seasonality strategies as they can be built in python using freely available tools and data. He will also review Quantopian's full suite of tools, infrastructure and data in order to test and deploy investment strategies.
David will demo an example of how to build an investment strategy, backtest and live trade - all in the Quantopian platform. Finally, he will discuss the next step in Quantopian's business model - the development of the quant crowd-sourced hedge fund and their latest paper trading contest, the Quantopian Open.
David Edwards currently works as an intern at Quantopian and manages several research projects. He is currently enrolled at SDSU where he is majoring in computer science. He has been a live trader on the Quantopian since June 2014.
